CHRISTIAN MOVIE REVIEW

Takers

Movieguide Magazine

CBN.com - Takers is a frenetic crime thriller about a Los Angeles police detective trying to take down a sophisticated, gun-toting band of urban, mixed-race bank robbers.

The action starts with a slick robbery of a Cal Fed bank where the robbers commandeer a news helicopter to make their planned getaway. They are doggedly pursued by Detective Jack Welles, played by the always reliable Matt Dillon (Crash).

As Welles and his troubled partner, Eddie, track down the thieves, one of their old buddies gets out of jail with a plan to steal $25 million from two armored cars. The heist has to be done in five days, however. This violates their method of lying low for a least a year between heists, but these thieves are pretty cocky dudes. So, they decide to go for the big score.

Complicating the new plan are the leader’s junkie sister, who wants to return to their original home in the Caribbean. Detective Welles is able to track down the leader through her. Also complicating matters are a Russian gang secretly in cahoots with the old friend recently released from jail, who obviously can’t be trusted.

Takers is a fairly entertaining crime drama, despite some bad photography and an unresolved ending. Several good performances hold the movie together. Regrettably, the high living bank robbers are a bit too glamorous. There is also plenty of foul language, a brief Jacuzzi scene with two women and a naked man, and very strong violence. The sympathetic character of Matt Dillon’s police detective helps to hold down MOVIEGUIDE®’s acceptability rating to a Minus Two, Extreme Caution.
