The Assembly: Celebrating America's Four-Hundredth Birthday
It was a warm, clear day, April 29, 1607, as an Anglican priest named Robert Hunt led a group of English colonists up a windswept dune named Cape Henry to where they had erected a rough-hewn cross, carried over from England. Lifting his eyes toward heaven, Hunt led them in a providential prayer that would forever mark the future of the nation that would rise from these shores – and would impact the destiny of other nations around the world.
Cape Henry, named after the son of King James, is now a part of Virginia Beach, and this April 29th, 2007, Christians will once again gather on these shores to rededicate this land to the glory and purposes of God.
To recognize the Quadracentennial of the founding of our nation, Christians from across the country will gather once again on the sands of Virginia Beach for The Assembly on Sunday, April 29th, 2007 to renew our covenant with God. The purpose of this solemn gathering will be to accept the responsibility to rededicate the land to God in prayer.
Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in the Americas. It is our nation's birthplace. Traditions established at Jamestown - including freedom of religion, representative government, the rule of law, free enterprise and cultural diversity - form the basis of American culture today.
This special Dedication Sunday will be a national call to the rededication of America to God in prayer. It will take place on the beautiful shores of Virginia Beach at the 20th Street Oceanfront 2 pm to 7 pm on April 29th. Organizers are encouraging believers to bring a cross to plant in the sand, and to dedicate your church, family, and nation to God!
