Chris Carpenter
CBN.com Program Director
Chris Carpenter is the Program Director for CBN.com, the Web
site of the Christian Broadcasting Network. He also serves as
lead producer for “Studio 10”, an Internet exclusive
web cast show seen on CBN.com. In addition to his regular duties,
Chris writes a popular weekly sports and leisure column for the
Web site.
In 2003, Chris won a national Telly Award for his work on "War
or Peace in the Middle East", a CBN.com original web cast.
He was also recognized for his innovation, integrity, and excellence
in 2002 and 2004 as a recipient of CBN's President's Award.
Prior to coming to CBN, Chris served as principal anchor for
Media One’s “Local Edition”, a five-minute news
insert program that appeared on CNN’s Headline News. He
was nominated for a Massachussetts Cable Commission award for
outstanding newscast in 1996. While at Media One, Chris also became
the Major League beat reporter for “Forever Baseball”,
a nationally syndicated television program that aired on Sports
Channel America, Fox Sports Net, as well as various major and
minor league stadiums across the country. On “Forever Baseball,”
he had the opportunity cover several World Series, championship
series, and All-Star Games.
His position there led to the opportunity to create HomeTownSports.com,
a groundbreaking Web site dedicated to the celebration of the
high school athlete. The site spawned a television program of
the same name that airs daily throughout New England. Under his
leadership, the Web site was nominated for a national Beacon Award
in 1999, for outstanding sports Web site, as well as being tabbed
as one of the five best sports Web sites in Massachusetts by Boston
Magazine.
Chris began his career by working as a production assistant at
then CBS Affiliate WHDH-TV in Boston, Massachusetts. He then served
as the Media Director at Newbury College in Brookline, Massachusetts
for four years. While at Newbury, he taught undergraduate courses
in broadcasting, journalism, and media studies. His efforts netted
the Faculty of the Year Award in 1992 and an Outstanding Contribution
Award in 1994.
Chris has co-authored a book entitled “Murder at the Baseball
Hall of Fame” (St. Martin’s Press) that was published
in the fall of 1996. Set in Cooperstown, New York, the murder
mystery follows the exploits of private detective Frank Branco
in his quest to solve the murder of former major leaguer Herb
Frawley.
Chris holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications
from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts.
