It’s been three years since Nicole released a studio album, but she’s been busy in her hometown of Franklin, Tennessee. God’s plan for Nicole has taken her down many roads. She’s a wife and mother, a singer/songwriter, speaker and successful businesswoman.
Through her non-profit Baby Girls Club (BGC), Nicole mentors young women and helps them sing, sew and study. The premise behind BGC is to develop leadership qualities and teach the young girls, ages 6 through 17 years old, how to use their talents.
Nicole meets with the young girls on a weekly basis. At the end of the meetings, the girls share what has been going on in their lives and pray together. “We use the arts to empower, whether it’s through singing, dancing, playing an instrument, song writing, clothing design, even computer work and homework,” says Nicole. “This is a place to share, resolve conflicts, practice listening and leading.” Several years ago, Nicole formed another organization, Team NCM to recruit young people to perform on stage with her in her concerts.
Nicole’s creativity and compassion are hard to contain. From her early days as a background vocalist/dancer/choreographer to writing and recording such classic hits such as “Redeemer,” her ministry has had a global impact. Many people asked Nicole for years about recording a worship project, but she never felt like it was the right time.
Originally Nicole wanted to do a project called “Funkabilly By Nature,” but soon she realized the songs she penned were more worshipful in nature. As she began writing songs for her album, Nicole prayed What’s the right avenue? How do I deliver these gifts you have given me?
“Kingdom Come” is a song taken from The Lord’s Prayer. “Everyday there is a tornado, or earthquake, or tsunami,” says Nicole. “Even nature is crying out for the return of Christ, but His kingdom actually is already here.” Nicole says it’s a prayer that the kingdom of God would be revealed and that we would be His hands and feet. “My Tribute/Redeemer” Nicole combines this worshipful song with her classic “Redeemer.”
Nicole began writing songs at the age of 12. When her parents first moved to Tennessee from Ohio, Nicole’s mom brought her the sheet of paper of the first song she’d ever written, “Praise Your Holy Name.” “It was handwritten and I was just amazed to see how God has plans for us, regardless of our age or stage,” says Nicole.
In November 2011, Nicole will be inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame.
