Dede Robertson, wife of Dr. M. G. “Pat” Robertson, founder and chief executive officer of The Christian Broadcasting Network, Inc. and former Republican presidential candidate, was appointed in 1982 as the principal US delegate to the Inter-American Commission of Women (IACW). She represented the United States from 1982 to 1990.
A native of Ohio, she was educated in the Bexley Schools. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University and Ohio State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Administration.
She continued her education at Yale University School of Nursing, receiving a Master of Nursing Degree. While attending Yale, she met M.G. “Pat” Robertson, then a student in the Yale Law School. They were married shortly thereafter.
Mrs. Robertson devoted the next few years to being a wife and mother of two sons and two daughters, and applying her nursing degree on a part-time basis at the Boulevard Hospital, New York City, and Portsmouth General Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia. After her children were all in school, she served as Assistant Professor of Nursing at Tidewater Community College. From 1961 to 1964 she was hostess of a missionary TV program, Lifeline.
Mrs. Robertson serves on the Board of Trustees of Regent University, on the Board of Directors of The Christian Broadcasting Network, and had formerly served on the Board of Directors of Physicians For Peace.
She has traveled extensively in Asia, the Middle East, Central and South America, particularly during years with The Flying Hospital on its medical missions and humanitarian work around the world. Her domestic travel was at its height during 1987-88 as she campaigned enthusiastically on behalf of her husband’s presidential bid in 52 American cities.
Mrs. Robertson was selected Christian Woman of the Year for 1986.
An accomplished writer, Mrs. Robertson has written two books, My God Will Supply and The New You. She has also written a monthly column, All In A Woman’s Day, for Christian Life Magazine.
She is a gifted interior designer and antique expert and is responsible for the design of all interiors of the Georgian-style buildings at CBN Center.
Her hobbies include knitting, needlework, and gardening. Her latest challenge is finding enough time to visit her two sons, two daughters, and fourteen grandchildren.
