Domenica Catelli positively influenced the way millions of families eat and prepare food across the United States with her tasty, easy, and healthy approach to cooking. Her claim to fame is getting children to eat rare vegetables like Brussels sprouts, Swiss chard and cauliflower, without hiding the ingredients!
When Domenica’s daughter, Chiara was a baby, she pureed her baby’s food using organic produce. Not only was this cost effective and efficient, Domenica says the flavors of fresh baby food far exceed those of the over-processed and discolored veggies in baby foods. “People have always been amazed at my daugther’s desire for vegetables,” she says. Chiara, now 11, enjoys kale, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, butternut squash, etc. “I attribute her liberal palate to her earliest experience with food and being trained to true flavors,” says Domenica.
Sending your kids off to school with a nutrient-dense breakfast will help keep kids energized and sustained through the morning and prevent fewer meltdowns in the afternoon. For lunch, freeze your sandwiches. This works with turkey and cheese and peanut butter and jelly. Keep lettuce and tomato separate. Dinner doesn’t have to take hours to prepare. Domenica’s priority is getting healthy and delicious food on the table for her family. “Let me assure you, I’m usually as exhausted as you when six o’clock rolls around,” says Domenica.
Her first book, Mom-a-licious: Fresh, Fast, Family Food for the Hot Mama in You! published in Fall 2007, was an instant hit across the nation. More than a cookbook, Mom-a-licious captures the heart of healthy eating for families and a “stick with it” mentality that leads to less fussy eating for children.
Domenica is a member of the chef advisory board of the non-profit organization Common Threads along with other celebrity chefs including Jamie Oliver, Paula Deen, and Tyler Florence. Over her career, many exclusive chefs have turned to her expertise when developing recipes. Domenica’s contributions can be seen in the James Beard award-winning cookbook, Back to the Table by Art Smith and on products in tens of thousands of grocery stores nationwide.
Domenica grew up in Sonoma county wine country. Over the years, she has created unforgettable menus for several restaurants in California from Laguna Beach to Mendocino coast, where she served as Executive Chef of the organic restaurant, Raven’s at the Stanford Inn, with featured recipes from the estate’s three-acre garden. As a devoted mother, she shares her inspiration and skills with families throughout the country. Whether she is teaching children and communities through organizations such as Recipe for Success, or creating easy guides for healthy nutrition and living, she continues to bring the joys of being "mom-a-licious" into her own family and into the lives of others.
