Dave Morin: This Little Piggy Went To The Gym
CBN.com
Dave, 32, was an overweight teen and grew up to be overweight as an adult. When he and Jen got married in 2006, Dave weighed 280 pounds. Two years later, Dave weighed in at 423 pounds, simply by overeating.
The bigger he got, the more he refused to go to the gym. Jen started to prayed that her husband would change. One night she was crying. Dave got so upset he asked her to stop mentioning the gym.
Dave was frustrated because he had tried just about every diet on the market. Then one day, Dave applied for life insurance but couldn’t get insured because of his size. “I realized how selfish I was being,” says Dave. “I wanted to be around for my kids.” So in March 2008, Dave decided to use a portion-controlled eating plan and lost 60 pounds. He hit a plateau.
Several months after Jen started praying, Dave’s brother Michael, made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. Michael offered to pay for a personal trainer if Dave would go. So Dave agreed. He worked out for 5 days a week for one hour each day. The personal trainer explained how the body works and how important nutrition is for losing weight. Dave changed his eating habits.
“I did this all naturally; I didn’t have surgery,” says Dave. After 18 months, Dave dropped 238 pounds and weighs 185 pounds. His once-size-48 waist is now a 30. “I feel amazing,” says Dave. He used to wear a 4X or 5 X t-shirt; today he is in a medium/large.
LOSING WEIGHT = SAVING MONEY
In addition, Dave says he and Jen save $450 a month on their food bill. In the past, Dave used to be what he calls a “fast-food junkie.” He would eat a breakfast burrito in the morning, a giant slice of pizza at lunch and from the Taco Bell menu, Dave would eat a grilled stuffed burrito, nachos bell grande, and a couple of bean burritos with sour cream. Each meal was followed by a large Pepsi. Dave calculated the calories which come to over 3,400 calories a day!
Dave has been a Christian for 12 years. His brother Mike led him to the Lord.
