CBN.com – It’s hog heaven for motorcycle lovers. But for the churchgoers at Covenant Confirmers ministries in Springfield, Tennessee, it’s just another Sunday service.
The revving of the Harley is their call to worship, as the Congregation sports their Sunday best…leather and blue jeans.
They praise God as hard rock blares from the speakers and a Las Vegas style light show shines down on this not so traditional service.
“When God called me to do that I was really taken back, because I really thought I would do the traditional church,” says Pastor Ron Baptiste.
They’ve helped transform the lives of ex-cons, former prostitutes, and rehabilitated drug addicts. And now those same people are reaching out to those around them. Every Saturday, from 10 to 4, the church holds a free medical clinic for bikers.
He adds, “A lot of bikers, they’re going to buy some chrome for their motorcycle before they’re going to do something for their own health. That’s just the way that they are.”
The church received a generous donation of over half a million dollars in medical supplies from a local company. As word spread about the clinic, some local doctors wanted to help too.
“I thought it was a good thing to do just to help that population that would otherwise probably wouldn’t walk into an ER or a regular health care clinic,” says one of the clinic doctors.
Gloria January drove almost an hour to bring her daughter in.
“Jasmine had an earache this morning so we let her see the doctor,” Gloria says.
Dr. Olunwa Ikpeazu says, “We hope this is a big success. It’s going to help a lot of people.”
From their hard rock to their free help, the purpose is the same.
“Rather than me just get out here on the street corner and try to preach to everybody I can do this. And show them what we’ve invested into them and bring them in here and expose them to what we are doing here. And then at that time I know they’re eventually going to end up here in our church services,” says Pastor Baptiste.
