How Does It Feel to Be Saved?

By Linda Gilden
Guest Writer

CBN.comI've prayed to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior, so why don't I 'feel' saved?

Feelings are fickle. Some days we may love to work outdoors and other days the idea of spending all day in the sun and fresh air seems anything but appealing. Feelings for others can also change.

How many parents have had a child who leaves the room screaming, “I hate you,” only to return shortly with his or her normally cheerful personality intact?
In order to properly answer this question, we probably need to determine what it feels like to be saved. What do you expect when you accept Jesus Christ into your life? Is there a radical change in the way you "feel"? Are you suddenly different?

The answer to that last question is yes, you are different. You are no longer just a sinner. You are a forgiven sinner and it feels good to know that the wrong things you have done have been forgiven and forgotten. A peace is available to you that you have never had before. You have a constant companion, Jesus, who will be with you no matter how you feel.

But, you say, some days I just don’t “feel” saved. Everyone has those days. When you are not feeling saved, there are a few things you can remember:

  1. It's a done deal. The decision you made to ask Jesus into your life was a conscious choice. You may have felt very strongly in your heart that you needed to make that choice. But you made the choice not only with your heart, but with your head. It was a decision, a commitment and when you commit to something it is final.
  2. You're in the family. You are now part of God’s family and families stick together. Think about your earthly family. Do you always “feel” like part of the family? Probably not. Do you ever question that you are part of that family? Probably not again. You know you belong to the Jones family or the Whitlock family. Same with God’s family. Once you make that decision to become a part of God’s family, you’re in for life. He will never disown you or turn his back on you.
  3. No doubts. God has told us in Deuteronomy 31:6 that “the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Because we know we can believe God, we can trust what He says. Even on days we don’t feel saved, we can know that we are saved.

Feelings are often fleeting and will change from one moment to the next. God will never change. His love and presence remain constant in the lives of those who love Him.

Do You Want a Relationship with God?

If you want this kind of relationship with God, pray this prayer right now:

Lord Jesus Christ, I believe that you took the pain of the cross to give me new life. I ask you to come into my life and to give me your peace and joy. I confess that I am a sinner -- that I have gone my own way and have done wrong. Please forgive me for my sins. I receive you now as my Lord and Savior. Please fill me with your Holy Spirit. Help me to follow you and to serve you all my life. Thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen.

If you prayed that prayer, you are now a child of God. The things of your old life have passed away and He has made all things new.
