GOP Candidates Talk Biblical Worldview and Race

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The presidential candidates are making a mad dash to the Palmetto State to stump for votes.

The first-in-the-South primary is Saturday, February 20, and it has been a wild ride so far. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, won the Iowa caucuses. Mogul Donald Trump won New Hampshire.

Some 700,000 South Carolinians are expected to hit the poles, and the candidates are trying to reach each of them. The state is far more diverse than Iowa and New Hampshire, and the candidates are tweaking their messages and retooling their approaches.

Dr. Ben Carson and Cruz will participate in the Carolina Values Summit at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Thursday night.  It is sponsored by the Reconciled Church and will discuss religious liberty, race relations, criminal justice reform and urban revitalization – a topic dear to event organizer Bishop Harry Jackson.

"The questions that we're going to ask candidates to deal with how do we bring healing to, revitalization to the urban core? What could a president do -- who believes in a biblical worldview -- to change the feeling of hopelessness that's in our inner cities?" said Jackson. "How do we get an atmosphere where the Church is allowed to function in concert with government and business to create a safe and healing environment?"

Jackson says the event will make history.

"It has never been talked about before," Jackson said. "I believe that evangelicals need to help shape in advance the messaging of both Republicans and Democrats."
