IDF Soldier, Israeli Man Hurt in Separate Attacks
JERUSALEM, Israel -- Terror attacks against Israelis continued this week in Jerusalem and in other parts of the country.
Wednesday morning in the southern city of Kiryat Gat, a knife-wielding terrorist stabbed an Israeli soldier before managing to grab his weapon and flee to a nearby building, where police shot and killed him.
Sappers were deployed to the scene as police suspected the terrorist may have been armed with a bomb.
The soldier was taken to Ashkelon's Barzilai Medical Center for treatment.
Earlier Wednesday, a female terrorist stabbed an Israeli man in the back near the Lion's Gate in Jerusalem's Old City, near where a rabbi and an off-duty soldier were murdered Saturday and a woman and her toddler son injured.
The moderately wounded man drew his handgun and shot the attacker at point blank range. Both were transported to Jerusalem hospitals, the victim with a moderate stab wound and the attacker in critical condition.
Israel Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said they'd opened an investigation to determine if the 18-year-old acted alone or if she is part of a terror cell.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said he has no interest in escalating the conflict, though his actions belie his words. Abbas also says he's ready to talk with Israel.
